Mauricio Pochettino has claimed every team in the Premier League’s top 10 can win the title this season.
In one of the tightest races for years, fourth-placed Tottenham remain in contention even though they are seven points behind leaders Arsenal.
Yet Pochettino believes any side in the top half of the division – from Arsenal to Watford – can aspire to take the ultimate prize. He said: “Everyone in the top 10 has the chance to win the league. It’s very open and you can’t guess what will happen.
“There are a lot of games ahead and anything can happen. We’re excited to compete but you need to accept sometimes that bad results like last night’s/Wednesday’s against Leicester can happen.
“We missed a great opportunity to establish ourselves in the top part of the table. You feel disappointed but you need to carry on, keep working hard because everything is open.
“The league is very tough. It’s the hardest in the world and today it is very open. We have Arsenal, Leicester, Manchester City, Tottenham, and then behind us Liverpool, Manchester United, West Ham.”
Tottenham face Sunderland on Saturday, with their former centre-forward, Jermain Defoe, in outstanding form after scoring a hat-trick in a 4-2 win at Swansea last night/on Wednesday.
Defoe scored 143 goals across two spells at Tottenham and Pochettino added: “We need to be careful of all opponents and Defoe is a great player, a great scorer. His quality is not new to us.”
