Harry Winks leaves Tottenham as Leicester confirm £10m signing

Tottenham have confirmed the sale of Harry Winks to Leicester City in a deal worth £10million.

The Academy graduate leaves Spurs having made over 200 Premier League appearances. Once a key first-team player under Mauricio Pochettino, Winks slipped down the pecking order before being shipped out on loan to Sampdoria last season as the club were relegated from Serie A.

Winks’ move to the King Power Stadium was separate from James Maddison’s move to Spurs, which is valued at around £40million and completed earlier in the week.

The 27-year-old has earned 10 caps for England, but the last came in 2020.

Winks has become Leicester’s first signing since their relegation to the Championship and is expected to help fill the hole left by Youri Tielemans, who has joined Aston Villa on a free transfer, and that of Maddison, who has moved in the other direction.

Leicester will be among the favourites to earn promotion back to the Premier League, and new manager Enzo Maresca has moved quickly to sign Winks, who had one year left on his contract, ahead of the start of pre-season.
