Glenn Hoddle has urged Tottenham to improve defensively ahead of Saturday's Premier League clash against Chelsea.
Spurs were eliminated from the Champions League last night after suffering a 2-1 defeat to Monaco - their third loss in five group games this season - as Mauricio Pochettino's risky team selection failed to pay off.
Kyle Walker and Jan Vertonghen were left on the bench and the north Londoners, who currently boast the best defensive record in England's top tier, struggled to contain the hosts' attack.
Spurs fans have grown used to seeing their side produce high-energy displays during Pochettino's tenure but Hoddle has suggested the lack of passion on show in Monte Carlo cannot be repeated at Stamford Bridge.
"There was no passion there. I think there are too many players floating along there, not finding their best form," Hoddle told BT Sport.
"They have got to do something about it, they are all looking at each other instead of saying, I am going to be the one to change this team.
"It needs to be better defensively. They were awful defensively, but even with the ball they were poor.
"They haven't got the kind of substitutes they had last season, the squad at the moment looks a bit thin, there isn't anyone who can be a game changer coming on from the bench."
Hugo Lloris produced more heroics in goal against Monaco, saving Radamel Falcao's penalty and producing a succession of outstanding saves.
But with a trip to Chelsea on the horizon Hoddle believes Tottenham cannot afford to continue relying on the Frenchman's ability to get them out of trouble.
"We've always said how well Lloris has played so well this season.
"It's alright getting clean sheets if you come off [the pitch] and think the goalkeeper has made one save.
"But he's making save after save and they're getting clean sheets. Now they're getting found out. You can't keep doing that for too long," Hoddle insisted.
