Tottenham vs Millwall: Harry Kane suffers ankle injury in FA Cup tie

Tottenham suffered a huge injury setback on Sunday as Harry Kane limped out of their FA Cup quarter-final against Millwall with an apparent ankle injury.

The 23-year-old was named captain by Mauricio Pochettino and made a bright start to the encounter, receiving Kieran Trippier's through ball-before forcing Tom King into a smart stop at the near post.

But Kane appeared to pick up an ankle problem as his right foot bent awkwardly as he slid off the White Hart Lane pitch under a challenge from Colin Cooper.

The striker received treatment from a member of the club's medical staff before gesturing to Pochettino that he could not continue, and limped off down the tunnel.

Christian Eriksen was brought on in Kane's place, with Heung-min Son shifting forward into a centre-forward role but the England international's potential injury absence ahead of the Premier League run-in would equate to a huge blow.

Kane has been in fine form in recent weeks, scoring eight goals in his last three domestic appearances, but could now face a spell on the sidelines.

Spurs struggled for goals during his absence with ankle ligament damage earlier in the season and will be hopeful the damage Kane has suffered is not serious or - worse still, a recurrence of the injury.

Kane's previous problem kept him out of the side for several weeks and a similar lay-off could see him miss the majority of the run-in.
