Benjamin Stambouli has postponed his £5.5m transfer from Tottenham to Watford because he is holding out for a move to Paris Saint Germain.

As Standard Sport revealed yesterday, Watford fear their move for the 24-year-old is falling through because he is having second thoughts about going to Vicarage Road.

It is understood that Stambouli has set his sights on a move to PSG, who are looking for a replacement for Yohan Cabaye following his transfer to Crystal Palace.

PSG are also believed to be prepared to offer Stambouli more wages than what Watford were going to pay.

While Watford can guarantee him first team football, Stambouli is prepared to risk sitting on the bench at the French champions, where he will count as one of their home grown players.

PSG can also offer him Champions League football, whereas newly-promoted Watford Watford are facing a battle to stay in the Premier League.

The French club still have to agree a fee with Spurs, who will not accept anything lower than the £5.5m Watford were going to pay.

But that shouldn't be a problem given PSG's financial resources and they made £10m from the sale of Cabaye.
