Tottenham's fledglings delighted to help ease Spurs through

Great promise: Young Carroll in action last night
11 April 2012

Tottenham's young guns were delighted to help the north London team reach the group stages of the Europa League last night.

Harry Kane, 18, and 19-year-old Thomas Carroll were part of a youthful side named by Harry Redknapp for the second leg of last night's qualifying play-off second leg against Hearts, with Spurs 5-0 up after last week's Tynecastle opener.

Although Kane missed a penalty, the pair showed glimpses of quality in their goalless draw.

Midfielder Carroll said afterwards: "I thought I did all right, I tried to get on the ball and make things tick and I did that to some extent.

"We just found out prior to kick-off that we were playing - maybe an hour or so before - so we felt excited.

"If I'd known [I would have been playing] I wouldn't have been able to sleep I dont think - but you've got to shine on nights like this."

Kane added: "Hopefully we will get more chances.

"We were both on loan at Leyton Orient last season and we gained a lot of experience from our time there."
