We’ve signed a Wilfried Bony, insists Swansea's Monk

Swansea's players believe Wilfried Bony will give Premier League defences a torrid time this season — and they have the bruises to prove it.

Bony, who had also been a target for West Ham, linked up with his new team-mates last week after completing a £12million move from Vitesse Arnhem.

And the Ivory Coast international has already made a big impression on his new colleagues, in more ways than one.

Swansea defender Garry Monk said: “He is a unit, isn’t he? The first day in training and going up against him in set-pieces I got injured at his expense; I pushed off him and dislocated my finger. It says it all just how big a boy he is.

“It’s not just his size. We were in training the other day, myself Leon [Britton] and Ashley [Williams] were asking him to take a shot. He nearly broke the net.

“He’s probably the hardest striker of a ball I’ve ever seen in football. I don’t think I’ve seen anyone hit a ball like it.”

Bony scored an impressive 46 goals in 65 games in the Dutch league for Vitesse but Monk said: “He is going to need some time to settle in.”
