After a two-month absence with a thigh injury, Vincent Kompany returned to skipper Manchester City for their Barclays Premier League clash with West Brom at The Hawthorns.

Kompany was one of three changes to the side that defeated Swansea 3-0 at the weekend, with Aleksandar Kolarov and Edin Dzeko also handed starts as Gael Clichy, Joleon Lescott and Alvaro Negredo dropped out.

West Brom head coach Steve Clarke also made three changes following the 2-1 loss at Newcastle on Saturday, one enforced with Youssouf Mulumbu serving a one-match ban after collecting five yellow cards.

Claudio Yacob replaced Mulumbu, with Clarke also bringing in Steven Reid and Saido Berahino for Billy Jones and the benched Stephane Sessegnon.

Despite an 8pm kick off, due to traffic congestion and delays on the nearby M6, the start was delayed by an additional 15 minutes.

West Brom: Myhill, Reid, McAuley, Olsson, Ridgewell, Morrison, Yacob, Amalfitano, Berahino, Brunt, Long. Subs: Popov, Lugano, Anichebe, Daniels, Vydra, Gera, Sessegnon.

Man City: Pantilimon, Zabaleta, Demichelis, Kompany, Kolarov, Jesus Navas, Fernandinho, Toure, Nasri, Dzeko, Aguero. Subs: Hart, Richards, Lescott, Milner, Negredo, Javi Garcia, Rodwell.
