Strong start? Allardyce will hope to recreate victories over Tottenham last season

The biggest challenge for West Ham when they make their big move to the Olympic Stadium in two years will be to try to fill the 54,000-capacity stadium.

To give themselves a fair chance of doing that, they need to not only be in the Premier League but also be providing attractive entertainment to entice enough people to want to come and watch them.

Up to now Sam Allardyce has delivered on the first criterion but, according to some, not yet the second. Co-owner David Sullivan and many of the club’s fans are demanding a more expansive game from their team this season and their pragmatic manager, despite taking great pride from his players grinding out 14 clean sheets last season, will do his best to make everyone happy.

However, West Ham fans shouldn’t expect a revolution of style from a manager whose philosophy has always been: “If you can’t win, don’t lose.”
