Enner Valencia struck twice, with his first coming inside two minutes, before getting his second shortly after restart after he capitalised on some lapse defending from Nicholas Otamendi.
But for as long as City have Sergio Aguero in their ranks, they’ll continue to salvage points from scraps.
The Argentine struck two equalisers at the Boleyn. His first came from the spot after a costly mistake from Carl Jenkinson, before finishing coolly in the second half to bring his side level once again.
Slaven Bilic will take heart from his side’s performance but he’ll know that, on a day where City weren’t really at the races, it was probably two-points dropped for the Hammers.

West Ham manager Bilic: "There's a lot of pressure for any manager of a top club, it comes with the territory. I think Pellegrini is handling it with ease. He is a very strong guy, mentally very tough. I have a lot of respect for him."
City defender Nicolas Otamendi: "The game against West Ham will be very important for us because we are in the title race, fighting game by game, and we need to reach a consistency with a series of wins.
"It’s very important for us to win at Upton Park and that’s what we will be fighting for on Saturday. We know it won’t be easy because they are a good side with some very good players, many of whom are in a good moment."
