Tottenham are not expected to be allowed to put cheap tickets on general sale for next month’s EFL Cup match against West Ham at Wembley, despite selling tickets for £5 for Tuesday’s win over Barnsley.

The club were due to begin talks with the Metropolitan Police and Brent Council today over ticketing and safety for the derby, scheduled for the weekend of 23-24 October, but general sale is likely to be restricted to Spurs fans with a history of buying from the club.

Away fans are entitled to 10 per cent capacity in the EFL Cup, and the safety advisory group - made up of representatives of Spurs, Brent Council and the police, ambulance and fire services - are yet to decide if Wembley can be full or restricted to 51,000.

Spurs, however, do not expect significant trouble. There were only four arrests, two on each side, following West Ham’s 1-0 home win over Spurs in April on a Friday night and the Met has downgraded this weekend’s Premier League meeting at London Stadium as a result.
