West Ham forward Michail Antonio has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a "significant" hamstring injury, Slaven Bilic has confirmed.

The 27-year-old was forced off in the early stages of last week's crucial victory over Swansea nursing the injury and will miss the remainder of the run-in as West Ham battle to retain their Premier League status, starting with Saturday's trip to Sunderland.

Antonio has been a key player for the Hammers this term, scoring nine goals in 29 top-flight appearances, and Bilic will now have to look elsewhere for an attacking threat.

Bilic said: "We are without Michail Antonio. It's a significant injury and he's out for the season.

"It's a big blow with Antonio because he has been good in every game. We have options up front with Andy Carroll and Jonathan Calleri.

"We're likely going to need both Andy and Jonathan on Saturday and they'll share the minutes on the pitch," added the Croatian.

Carroll has endured another injury-hit campaign and has scored just seven Premier League goals as he continues to struggle for fitness.

Calleri, meanwhile, is yet to make a Premier League start for the east Londoners but remains hopeful he will do so before the end of the campaign.

West Ham will be installed as favourites against David Moyes' side, who are rooted to the foot of the table.

The Hammers are not yet mathematically safe and Bilic is determined to put more points on the board and finally stave off the threat of relegation.

"Sunderland is in a situation that they are desperate for a win. It's also a big game for us to get closer to securing our status.

"We know it's going to be extremely hard, but it's a good opportunity for us to get some points and get closer to safety."
