Whelan: Foreigners bad for England

Wigan chairman Dave Whelan believes the Premier League is having a detrimental effect on the England team.

England Under-21's crashed out of the European Championships in Denmark in the group stage and Whelan is worried not enough young players are getting their chance in the top flight.

He said: "People will say there are too many foreign players and there's got to be some truth in that.

"We desperately need more youngsters to be playing in the Premier League, but it's not easy.

"It seems the stronger the Premier League, the weaker the England team - that has to change."
