Who is Chelsea target Emerson Palmieri? Roma defender on Antonio Conte's transfer wishlist

Antonio Conte has a new target in his sights as the Chelsea manager looks to bolster his squad with Roma defender Emerson Palmieri.

The Italian is again looking to his homeland in search of fresh faces having grown frustrated with failed efforts to sign long-term target Alex Sandro from Juventus.

Chelsea hope to secure a deal in the rejoin of £20milion for Emerson, around of a third of the fee reportedly required to take Sandro to Stamford Bridge.

Emerson is a Brazil-born left-back who switched allegiance to Italy last year after representing Selecao at Under-17 level.

The 23-year-old moved from Brazil to Italy in 2014, initially on loan at Palermo before joining Roma the following season.

Emerson has barely featured this season as he recovers from a serious knee injury but was one of Roma's standout performers last season to catch the eye.

Standard Sport takes a look at Conte's January target in the above video.
