Fulham miss out on Farnerud

Fulham have missed out on Swedish teenager Alexander Farnerud after manager Jean Tigana offered the striker a deal.

Farnerud, a Swedish Under-17 international who plays for Landskrona, has been watched by Manchester United, Ajax and Feyenoord as well as Fulham.

Tigana believed he could win the race for his signature, having worked with Alexander's older brother Pontus at Monaco.

However, the youngster has turned down the opportunity to join the Cottagers, believing that he would not get a chance to play in the first team.

"It is difficult to come to a youth team at a big club and then break into the first team. I don't think you should leave one club until you get a firstteam contract at another," he said.
