Giggs wants second helping of glory

13 April 2012

Ryan Giggs has said winning the Champions League two years ago with Manchester United will mean nothing unless they do it again.

Ahead of tonight's crucial quarter-final with Bayern Munich, Giggs is anxious that United do not go down in the annals of Champions League history as one-season wonders.

He desperately wants to lift the European Cup with United again to prove they are one of Europe's great sides.

"We've got to prove that the Champions League triumph was not a oneoff," he said.

"It was a great achievement, but in my eyes it doesn't mean anything unless we do it again. We have the capabilities and we have everything needed to win the trophy.

"We have to believe in that and do it again.

"It would be a big disappointment if I ended my career at United and I had only won one European Cup winner's medal considering the team we've got here, when we know we're still a maturing side."

Giggs knows United will need to draw on the spirit of their final win in 1999 if they are going to overturn Bayern's 1-0 lead from the quarter-final first leg and triumph in the Olympic Stadium.
