Haaland advised to retire

The likelihood of Alf-Inge Haaland taking legal action against Roy Keane increased yesterday as it emerged that he has been advised he may have to retire from football.

Having shown a scan of his troublesome knee to two doctors in Oslo, the Manchester City midfielder returned to England and discussed his options with manager Kevin Keegan. City have discussed the possibility of legal action against Keane, and Haaland has also talked it through with his advisers.

Keegan has signed goalkeeper Tim Flowers on a three-month loan from Leicester - as revealed in Sportsmail - following injuries to Peter Schmeichel and Nicky Weaver.
