Holland knows it all points to home

Matt Holland says the key to European qualification for Charlton lies with their home form for the rest of the season.

Holland scored the goal which gave Charlton a 1-0 win over Middlesbrough and put them into fourth place in the Premiership, a place they retained after yesterday's matches.

If Alan Curbishley's side can stay fourth, they will qualify for the Champions League next season, a fantastic achievement for the South London club.

Holland though, was eager to keep things on an even keel when he said: "We're in a great position but we've let ourselves down too often at home this season.

"We have five games left at The Valley. We have to be looking at winning them all and see where that takes us."

Meanwhile, Curbishley believes his side can be too honest for their own good. The Charlton manager wants his team to kill the game off when they have their noses in front, as they did from the 25th minute when Holland fired home.

Charlton had lost four of their previous five games and Curbishley admitted: "We've had our problems at home and we badly needed this win.

"I've got an honest bunch of players here, perhaps too honest. They lost their composure and panic set in during the last 20 minutes, as it did when we beat Blackburn last month."

Curbishley will also want a more professional reaction from Carlton Cole next time he is substituted.

Cole was obviously not impressed when he was replaced by Shaun Bartlett after 60 minutes and stormed down the tunnel after snatching his tracksuit from first team coach Mervyn Day.

"Carlton is still young," said Curbishley. "None of us needed to say any more. He knew he had done wrong."
