I want to manage Chelsea, says Terry

14 April 2012

John Terry on Monday night revealed he wants an option to manage Chelsea written into his new contract.

The Chelsea and England skipper disclosed he had talks early last month over a nine-year deal at Stamford Bridge, including a clause about following in the footsteps of coach Jose Mourinho once his playing career is over.

Speaking on Monday night's edition of the BBC programme Inside Sport, on the eve of Tuesday night's Champions League clash with Liverpool, Terry said: "I'd certainly like to manage.

"When I was speaking about my contract, I was talking about a nine-year deal and maybe an option to manage at the end of it. I want to get my badges and make that decision at the end of my career."

In addition, speaking candidly about the first red card of his career against Spurs last November, Terry was adamant that suggestions he had racially abused England team-mate Ledley King were wide of the mark.

He said: "It certainly isn't the case. I'd never be that way. People who know me know I'm not like that."
