Iceman cometh at Spurs

Tottenham are poised to complete the signing of Icelandic midfielder Emil Hallfredsson.

Sporting director Frank Arnesen has agreed a fee with his club, FH Hafnarfjordur, but the 20-year-old must still agree terms.

Hallfredsson, who has played for Iceland at Under-21 level, impressed during recent a trial at Spurs.

Arnesen said: "We hope to terms with him in the next couple of days. He is a young player and one for the future."

It is understood the left-sided player has been offered a two-and-a-half year deal with an option for a further season.

Hallfredsson, who was voted Iceland's young player of the year, also attracted interest from Everton and Feyenoord.

He is set to arrive in England later this month and should be available for the second half of the season.

Meanwhile, Arnesen will be seeking players who can take Spurs to a "higher level" when the transfer window opens next month.

Despite recruiting 15 new players last summer, the Dane is far from happy with the current squad.

He said: "Spurs must always try to get to a higher level and if we get that opportunity we will do it. Of course, we are constantly reading about players we are supposedly buying and selling, and I now understand all about the British expression 'take it with a pinch of salt'!

"But it's normal because we are a big club We did a lot of shopping this summer but we must always try to do better."
