Is van Bommel Tottenham bound?

14 April 2012

PSV Eindhoven midfielder Mark van Bommel is set to announce his next destination within a fortnight

The 27-year-old's contract with the Dutch giants will expire at the end of the season and having announced that he wants to leave the club for a fresh challenge, he will be available on a Bosman deal.

While his agent Rob Jansen would not name the clubs he has been negotiating with, he confirmed that the Dutch international intends to make a final decision soon.

"We're in the middle of discussions with a few clubs at the moment, and we will decide from there," Jansen told PA International.

"We're hoping to agree a deal within the next 14 days."

Van Bommel is well acquainted with Tottenham coach Martin Jol and sporting director Frank Arnesen, and said before Christmas he would like to join the Barclays Premiership club.

And with compatriot Jol having snubbed Ajax to stay with Spurs, they remain his most likely destination.

However, German Bundesliga clubs Schalke and Borussia Dortmund, where his father-in-law and former coach Bert van Marwijk is in charge, have also expressed a firm interest over the past 12 months.
