Ivanovic eases past Rezai

12 April 2012

Ana Ivanovic made swift work of booking her place in the fourth round of Wimbledon after completing a rain-delayed victory over Aravane Rezai of France.

Ivanovic began the day with a set in the bank from Saturday, and she continued her impressive form at the championships to claim the second set on Monday for a comfortable 6-3 6-2 triumph.

The 19-year-old will face the 11th-seeded Russian Nadia Petrova in the fourth round.

The sixth seed immediately broke the serve of the unseeded Rezai in the first game of the second set to put herself squarely in the driving seat.

The Belgrade native then proceeded to hold her own serve before her opponent pulled one back in the next game.

With a troubling wind swirling around Court 13 neither player could find a rhythm, although Ivanovic dealt with the conditions better than her 20-year-old opponent.

The killer blow finally arrived in the fifth game when Ivanovic converted on her second break point to storm 4-1 ahead.

At this point Ivanovic seemed poised to wrap up the contest within two service games at least, but Rezai had other ideas and promptly broke back to give herself a glimmer of hope.

But the Frenchwoman, ranked 60 in the world, fell apart in the next game, committing two unforced errors on her forehand with the score at 30-30 to hand the game - and effectively the match - to her opponent.

And the Serbian made no drama of serving out the match, taking the game to love with some incisive first serves.
