Iversen heading for Italy

14 April 2012

Former Tottenham and Wolves striker Steffen Iversen looks set for a move to Serie A after his advisor revealed both Lazio and Fiorentina are keen on a deal.

Now with Norwegian club Valerenga, after being released by Wolves in the summer, 28-year-old Iverson is nearing the end of his short-term contract and looking to further his career in Italy.

"It seems almost certain that he will go to either Lazio or Fiorentina," advisor Christian Eidem told Norwegian newspaper VG.

"Rome and Florence are amazing cities. The chance of living there and experiencing a new country is something they (Iversen and his wife) both want."

Another Italian side, Siena, have also expressed an interest, but Eidem admits a move there seems unlikely.

"We have a great offer from Siena, but I doubt that Steffen will join them. The chances of relegation are too big," he added.

Should he join Lazio, Iversen would team up with former West Ham and Charlton forward Paolo di Canio.

Valerenga have not lost a match since Iversen joined them, and club director Kjetil Siem knows it will be a huge loss if Iversen leaves.

"This is not good news for us," Siem said. "But we cannot give up our hope until a contract is signed.

"We cannot be angry if he leaves, anyway. We can only thank him for what he has done for our club."
