Joey Barton charged by FA

Joey Barton, released from prison this week, could be suspended for the start of the season after he was today charged with violent conduct by the Football Association.

The Newcastle midfielder faces a ban for assaulting former Manchester City team-mate Ousmane Dabo at the training ground last year.

Barton, who served 74 days of a six-month sentence for beating up a teenager in Liverpool last December, has until 13 August to respond to the charge.
