'Juvenile' Cole was badly advised

Former Arsenal boss George Graham has branded Ashley Cole "juvenile" for criticising the Gunners in his autobiography and claims the England defender has been badly advised.

Cole blasted Arsenal vice chairman David Dein, highlighted the lack of team spirit at the club and criticised several individuals in comments that have overshadowed his move to Chelsea.

"It amazed me that players come back from the World Cup and think they've got to write a book about their experience," Graham told BBC Radio Five Live's Sportsweek. "Ashley has obviously wanted to get a book out. But he's been very badly advised. Some of his comments have been so juvenile."

He added: "He may have had a gripe about the agreed contract which was then taken away from him but I would have advised him to keep quiet."

Cole joined Chelsea on transfer deadline in a deal which saw William Gallas move to Ashburton Grove with Arsenal pocketing an extra £5million.

Graham believes Gallas is a welcome addition to the squad but is concerned by the Gunners' over-reliance on striker Thierry Henry.

"Gallas was a fantastic signing for Arsenal but they need a little bit more steel in the team. They also need a bit more in midfield and up-front again," he said.

"They've started rebuilding again. Three seasons ago Arsenal were the best team in the Europe. The problem now is if Thierry is not scoring the goals, where will they come from?

"Before they had Robert Pires and Freddie Ljungberg always getting into double figures. You wonder now where the rest of the goals will come from."
