Kaboul rescues Pompey

Younes Kaboul snatched a precious point for rock-bottom Portsmouth with an injury-time strike in a 1-1 draw at Sunderland and was then promptly sent off.

The defender struck three minutes into stoppage time in this Barclays Premier League clash at the Stadium of Light and was then dismissed for a second bookable offence after removing his shirt in celebration.

Darren Bent's 10th goal of the season looked to have handed the Black Cats victory, but they failed to build upon his 23rd-minute strike and were made to pay for it.

The home fans had to wait only five minutes longer for the opening goal. Teenage midfielder Jordan Henderson found space down the right and after pushing the ball through defender Marc Wilson's legs crossed to the far post. Andy Reid fed the ball back across goal, where the unmarked Bent lashed a left-foot shot past the helpless David James.

Henderson curled a 28th-minute effort inches wide with James rooted to the spot, and Wilson survived appeals for a penalty for handball as he challenged for a cross.

After the break, Bent forced an important block from Richard Hughes after running on to Nosworthy's pass within two minutes of the restart.

Wilson denied Bent with a 70th-minute block and James kept out Lorik Cana's header from the corner.

Sunderland were unfortunate not to increase their lead with 10 minutes remaining when Reid curled a free-kick against the crossbar with James nowhere.

Cana blocked Kaboul's goal-bound effort deep into injury-time, but the Wearsiders failed to deal with the corner and the same man stabbed home a precious equaliser.

Kaboul's celebrations were cut short by the red card.
