Keothavong joins list of Brit flops

Anne Keothavong surrendered a 4-0 lead in the final set against Anastasia Rodionova to join the lengthy list of British first-round casualties at Wimbledon.

The British number three slipped to a 3-6 6-2 6-4 defeat that will once again raise questions over the temperament of the nation's top players.

Keothavong, making her 10th appearance at the All England Club, became the fifth British women to fall in the first round at SW19 this year.

At least the 26-year-old, roared on by a partisan crowd on Court 12, can justifiably claim she gave everything in a marathon encounter that lasted two hours and 20 minutes.

Her collapse in the final set was alarming, however, and the refusal of world number 74 Rodionova of Australia to give up was a lesson in defiance.
