Khan hopes to go one better than Ali

Amir Khan was today beginning a quest to go one better than his hero, Muhammad Ali, by winning an Olympic gold medal at the age of just 17.

Ali, then Cassius Clay, claimed the light-heavyweight championship at the Rome Games of 1960 when 18 and already recognised as an extraordinary boxing

Khan (above) was due to face Greece's Marios Kaperonis in the first round today and said: "I've picked up little things. Not trademarks like his shuffle but the flicking jabs, the feints and the fast feet. I just thought he was fantastic."
