Knights beaten despite Robins heroics

13 April 2012

London Knights got their Continental Cup finals campaign off to the worst possible start - despite an heroic performance from netminder Trevor Robins.

Robins made 44 saves, pulling off a string of stunning stops before finally being beaten with 10 minutes left as London lost 1-0 to hosts Zurich Lions.

Robins was named the tournament's top goaltender when helping Knights become the first British team to qualify for a European cup final in Norway last November.

Coach Chris McSorley again singled out Robins, who set a Sekonda Superleague single season record of five shutouts during London's 3-0 win over Newcastle Jesters on Tuesday, as the key to his side's fate in the pre-tournament build up.

He again failed to disappoint and seemed set to hold the Lions goalless until Patrick Lebeau grabbed the game winning goal.

Opposite number Ari Sulander complemented Robins' display with a solid show himself, earning a 29-save shutout.

The win put Zurich top of the group after the first round of matches with Slovan Bratislava and Munich Barons drawing 2-2 earlier in the day.

London will now be looking to give their final match against Munich on Sunday some meaning when they face Bratislava tomorrow night.
