Lotus chief dreams of being a high-flier

13 April 2012

Lotus Racing boss Tony Fernandes is convinced his team will one day follow in the footsteps of his airline and be winners.

After having at least one car classified for the first five grands prix, neither Lotus finished in Turkey on Sunday.

Heikki Kovalainen and Jarno Trulli ran strongly for the first half of the race only to both retire with hydraulics failures.

"What happened in Turkey was a low but to be champions we must deal with the lows, learn from them and move on," said Fernandes.

Drawing comparisons with his hugely successful airline, he added: "It all reminds me of the early days of AirAsia. We have just been awarded the title of world's best low-cost airline for the second year running, so I know we can repeat that with this team, and one day be victorious."
