Murphy sees clear picture

Danny Murphy today revealed how several hours in front of the video have helped turn his season around.

The Charlton midfielder struggled to make an impact following his £2.5million move from Liverpool and suffered the indignity of being booed by Charlton fans.

Murphy had one of his best games for his new club in Saturday's 4-0 win over Norwich, secured by a Jonatan Johansson brace and goals from Paul Konchesky and Jason Euell, and feels he is starting to get into his stride.

He said: "In the last couple of weeks we've grown a little bit in confidence and, personally, I'm starting to feel a lot more settled with everything both on and off the pitch. I took a video home a couple of weeks ago of every game I've played this season and every touch that I've had. I wanted to see if I was trying too hard to impress people - and I probably was.

"When you're struggling as a Premiership footballer you have to deal with it individually. You get on with it as best you can and ask yourself if you can do something different. Can I work harder in training? Can I eat better? What can I do? I think the one thing you should always give is 100 per cent effort and commitment."

After three successive defeats, Charlton have won their last two games and Murphy insists they will approach this weekend's trip to Manchester United full of confidence.

He said: "It's all about focusing on the positive because looking back at the bad results and when the crowd was against us doesn't do anyone any good."

Manager Alan Curbishley said: "We've had a couple of good results so everybody's happy."
