Mutu ban extended worldwide

14 April 2012

Adrian Mutu's seven-month ban from the Football Association has been extended worldwide by FIFA.

Mutu was sacked by Chelsea for gross misconduct after failing a drugs test and the Romania striker was handed the ban when he appeared before an FA disciplinary committee.

A FIFA statement read: "The FIFA disciplinary committee today extended to have worldwide effect the seven-month suspension that the Football Association pronounced on Romanian player Adrian Mutu for doping offences on 4 November 2004.

"This suspension covers all matches including domestic, international, friendly and official fixtures.

"If the player wishes to contest the decision before the FIFA appeal committee, he must announce his intention in writing within three days of notification of the decision."
