No appeal for Hull

12 April 2012

Hull have decided not to appeal the Rugby Football League's decision to impose a record £100,000 fine on the club for fielding an ineligible player in the Carnegie Challenge Cup.

They must pay £60,000 of the fine, with the rest suspended for 12 months, after being found guilty of a serious breach of the RFL's operational rules by playing prop forward Jamie Thackray in earlier round games against Rochdale Hornets and Widnes Vikings before he was registered.

Hull chief executive James Rule, who took responsibility for the blunder and represented the club at Monday night's hearing in front of a three-man panel, said: "We accept the decision and we now want to draw a line under the situation and move on."

He added: "Our focus is now on preparing for the club's remaining engage Super League games, which includes an all-ticket derby game against Hull KR in a fortnight and a Challenge Cup semi-final against Wakefield at the end of the month."
