Palace in new world titles bid

Crystal Palace is renewing its challenge to host the World Athletics Championships in 2005.

As difficulties continue to hamper the proposed £87 million stadium at Picketts Lock, Bromley and Croydon councils have united to campaign for Crystal Palace to stage the event.

This week councillors in Bromley voted to promote Crystal Palace as the ideal venue if the Picketts Lock scheme collapses and have been backed by next door Croydon.

Michael Tickner, leader of Bromley Council, said: ?We believe Crystal Palace Park is an attractive and sensible location for the 2005 World Championships.?
