Pardew desperate to keep hero Defoe

Jermain Defoe's two goals in West Ham's 3-2 win over Sunderland have refuelled talk that he will be sold in the January transfer window.

Arsenal are thought to be interested in signing Defoe but Hammers manager Alan Pardew is desperate to keep him.

Upton Park looked to be in revolt when Sunderland raced into a 2-0 lead but Defoe gave the home side hope when he scored first after 55 minutes followed by a second six minutes later.

The winner came from Ian Pearce and Pardew said: "I want to keep Jermain here and make him an even better player."
