Past glory gives Stuart new hope

Graham Stuart believes the omens are good as he prepares to face the club with whom he won the FA Cup.

Charlton's cup record has been dismal in recent years, but they travel to Everton for tonight's Carling Cup tie in good heart after winning three of their last four Premiership games. Stuart helped Everton claim the 1995 FA Cup and sees similarities between that side and his current team.

He said: "That team we had at Everton had the same work ethic we've got.

"We conceded only one goal in the entire competition and if you work hard, as Charlton do, you'll always have a chance. We're not going to win the league, so this is a good opportunity to get some silverware."

Jason Euell replaces Paolo Di Canio up front in the only change to the team that drew with Arsenal, while Matt Svensson could be on the bench after returning from Derby.

  • Everton v Charlton, Goodison Park, tonight, 8pm
