World No2 Phil Mickelson has decided to play in this month's US Open.

The American's participation in the second major of the year had been in doubt after he announced he was taking a break from golf to support his wife, Amy, who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer.

But the three-time major winner will now tee off at Bethpage on 18 June as it fits in with his 37-year-old wife's treatment schedule.

Mickelson, 38, said: "We have a wonderful team of doctors helping us and it is believed that we caught this early. We're anxiously waiting for a number of test results that will help guide us in the best possible direction."
