Promoted Stoke sack manager

Stoke City have terminated the contract of manager Gudjon Thordarson, just five days after the Icelander led the Potters to the First Division.

Club chairman Gunnar Gislason had claimed that the relationship between Thordarson and the board had become "untenable".

Only last Saturday Stoke clinched the last promotion place with a 2-0 win over Brentford in the Division Two play-off final at Cardiff 's Millennium Stadium.
