QPR's Holloway: 'We're too nice'

13 April 2012

Queens Park Rangers boss Ian Holloway complained that his relegation-haunted side are "too nice" after their 2-1 defeat against Burnley at Turf Moor.

Rangers, still without a win under Holloway, missed six clear-cut chances and also hit the woodwork twice.

But Holloway refused to hide behind a hard luck story after a defeat that leaves Rangers second from bottom in the first division table.

Play-off hopefuls Burnley took charge with first-half goals from Paul Smith and Gareth Taylor and although Marcus Bignot threw Rangers a lifeline with a goal seven minutes into the second-half they could not salvage a point.

Holloway moaned: "We are too nice to play against and we've got to get stronger and more together if we are to give ourselves an even chance.

"People may say we were unlucky but I don't think so. We wasted 45 minutes because it took us that long to get some passion into our game.

"Football is about getting a challenge in, not just fancy passing stuff and we didn't do it in the first half.

"If we are to stop the rot we've got to learn and learn fast and the place to do it is on the training ground. If player isn't competing it's up to the others to tell him to his face.

"We had enough senior players out there to compete better than we did and it shouldn't just be down to me to get that message across."
