Rebrov wants Spurs return

Sergei Rebrov: Heading back to the Lane?

Sergei Rebrov today said he wanted to return to Tottenham following Glenn Hoddle's sacking.

The club's £11million record signing was shipped out on loan to Turkish side Fenerbahce last January after being frozen out by Hoddle at White Hart Lane.

The Ukraine striker also became the latest in a long line of former players to criticise the axed boss.

It is not clear which club now holds the player's registration - Spurs or Fenerbahce, but Rebrov said: "I am ready to come back now if they are ready to see me. If Hoddle was still there then I would have no future at the club.

"I was of no interest to him but now I want to go back. He is the only reason I am not at Spurs. I still care about what is going on and I hope to come back - it is my team, my life.

"I love the supporters. They all told me not to leave Spurs whenever I went out and Hoddle was trying to get rid of me.

"It is part of football that it doesn't always work out. But Hoddle just would not speak to me so you think it is something else that you are doing which is wrong.

"Hoddle has nobody else to blame for his failure but himself. I had a lot of friends playing for Tottenham. Good players, great players. But under Hoddle we didn't play well.

"Now they are with new teams and playing well. You have to ask yourself if it is not the players that are bad but if something is wrong with the trainer."

Rebrov made just 37 Premiership starts after arriving from Dynamo Kiev in summer 2000.

Meanwhile, Coventry player-manager Gary McAllister, whose side entertain Spurs in the Carling Cup tomorrow night, believes Spurs have pushed the panic button.

He said: "It shows the pressure managers are under as people are being sacked after five or six games of a season. Glenn's had to incorporate new players into the squad. Yet the decision has been made after a few games.

"My respect for Glenn won't change. To midfield players of my generation, Glenn was their favourite. This won't change that."
