Rio and Leeds are feeling lucky

13 April 2012

Leeds captain Rio Ferdinand conceded his side rode their luck to set up a Champions League semi-final with Valencia after scraping through 3-2 on aggregate against Deportivo La Coruna.

Leeds, 3-0 up from the first leg, survived heavy pressure from the Spaniards and Ferdinand said: "We dug deep and got the result we needed. Although we lost 2-0 on the night, we've gone through and we're happy.

"I admit we definitely rode our luck at times but our job was to come here and get a result, and that's what we've done."

Manager David O'Leary said: "I'm delighted for the players, and what an adventure for this side, especially given the groups we've come through, the difficult circumstances we've faced and everything else.

"But to be in the last four of one of the greatest competitions in the world is all down to the players. It's an unbelievable achievement and I'm amazed."
