Touch rugby in the City

26 July 2012

Some of the City of London’s biggest firms will go head to head in the prestigious City Touch Rugby Tournament next Friday, August 3.

The event, now in its fourth year, will take place on the manicured lawns of the Honourable Artillery Company in the heart of the City of London where twelve teams will be vying for the coveted trophy.

Last year’s winners, Stratton Metals, are back to defend their crown at one of the most spectacular and unique sporting venues in the country.

The defending champions will face an early test of their title credentials when they come up against last year’s beaten finalist Goldman Sachs in the group stages.

2010 winners Bloomberg , Ascertiva Group, Bishopsgate Financial, Chubb Insurance, Delta One Data, D.T.Z, Ipreo, two teams from ETF Securities and Pcubed make up the tournament’s entrance list.

Pcubed, whose involvement in Rugby League also extends to sponsorship of the annual Varsity match, will be sponsoring the event again. The format of the City Touch Rugby Tournament will see the teams split in two groups of six. The companies will compete against one another to determine the top two sides that will progress into the semi-finals.

Each team will have a squad of ten players in the six-a-side event. And there will be a number of professional Rugby League coaches and players on hand to help them perform to their very best. As the tournament draws to a close, those taking part can enjoy the traditional BBQ whilst the winners and runners up receive their trophies and medals.
