Saracens confirm new contract for Maro Itoje: 'This is my home'

Saracens have confirmed Maro Itoje’s new long-term contract to stay put in north London – and hand England a big boost in the process.

England lock Itoje will also sign an enhanced Elite Player Squad contract with the RFU, that could be worth as much as £150,000 a season, to top up his Saracens deal.

The 29-year-old told Standard Sport exclusively earlier this month that he was close to completing his new deal.

Now his signature represents a big plus for both Saracens and England, especially with captain and fly-half Owen Farrell moving to Racing 92 this summer.

England have lost a clutch of players to moneyed French clubs, with stars who move overseas ineligible for Red Rose selection.

New Red Rose captain Jamie George and now Itoje have committed their futures to both Saracens and England though, in a clear double shot in the arm for the RFU.

“Saracens is my home and I couldn’t be happier to be saying here,” said Itoje. “Looking back I am very proud of what we have achieved over the last 10 years and it is the best place for me to keep progressing.”

Itoje has won five Premiership and three European titles with Saracens, claiming the 2016 Six Nations Grand Slam with England, and reaching the World Cup final in 2019 and semi-final in 2023.

“Maro has gone from a promising academy prospect to a global figure in rugby,” said Saracens boss Mark McCall.

“What sets Maro apart is his dedication to his craft, the standard he sets.”
