Skinners named Team of the Month

Team of the month: Skinners
10 April 2012

Tunbridge Wells school Skinners are rewarded for a magnificent cup campaign with the Evening Standard's Team of the Month award.

The first XV won all three games last month, including a thrilling victory over Hampton in the national cup. They went on to put in a brave quarter-final display against RGS Newcastle, only giving way in a tough second half.

Great attacking rugby also blew away Ravens Wood and Sir Joseph Williamson's Mathematical schools in January.

Still going strong in the Cup are Whitgift, who defeated fellow Team of the Month winners St Benedict's, and RGS High Wycombe. The teams meet in this month's semi-final.

Skinners Head of Rugby Nick Oldham said: "The boys have put a lot of hard work and effort into their rugby.

"Competing at the highest level is well within the reach of our young squad, who are bursting with talent and play extremely well for each other Given they have 15 members of the squad returning next year the future looks very promising."

The team overcame bad injuries to captain Will Dedman and fly half Jack Barker, with stand-in 15 year old Ben Gamble outstanding at No10.
