Rusedski makes quick work of Kiwi

13 April 2012

Greg Rusedski was given a brisk work-out by Kiwi Mark Nielsen before reaching the second round of the ATP New Zealand Open.

The British number two came through in straight sets, winning 6-4 6-4 against a rival who was also unseeded.

He now meets Zimbabwean fifth seed Byron Black, who beat Spain's Albert Portas 2-6 6-2 6-4.

Rusedski was impressed with the efficiency, if not the style, of his victory.

"It's just about getting the consistency in my game from the first ball to the last ball," he told BBC Radio 5 Live.

"That's the most important thing at the moment.

"The more you can win matches - even if they're not the prettiest tennis - the more you are going to bring what you're doing on the practice court onto the match court."
