Sam Allardyce is sure a goal will cure Andy Carroll woes

6 November 2012

Andy Carroll returns to his former club Newcastle on Sunday with manager Sam Allardyce hoping the striker will soon hit the goal trail.

Carroll, who is on a season-long loan, has yet to score for West Ham and Allardyce said: “We’re trying to get more crosses into Andy and in the end percentages will pay off.

“The better the service, and the quality of it, will make the difference and once he scores the first one he will be off and running.”

Speculation that Tottenham could be ready to make a bid to Liverpool for Carroll in January appear wide of the mark as the striker has already played for two clubs this season and cannot sign for a third.

West Ham, meanwhile, have an option to buy Carroll at the end of the season, for £17million.
