Sanchez set to reject Chelsea

14 April 2012

Real Betis winger Joaquin Sanchez looks set to reject Chelsea and join Real Madrid during the summer.
Ahead of his side's Champions League clash against Barcelona, Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho admitted the club had been in contact with the Spain international and refused to rule out a move for Joaquin during the summer.
However it appears the 23-year-old would prefer to stay in Spain, and he is targeting a move to the Bernabeu.
"I don't know where I am going to end up, but if a move happens, I want it to be relaxed and all in the open," Joaquin said on Spanish radio.
"If I move to Real Madrid, then that is great, because they are the best team in the world.
"It would be a dream to play for Real Madrid and play in the Champions League."
If Joaquin does move to Real he will be in direct competition with Luis Figo for a first-team place, although there are rumours that the Portuguese star could leave the club as he has less than 18 months left on his contract.
"It would be hard to go there with Luis Figo still there, because he is a complete professional and essential for Madrid," added Joaquin.
"I still have a long way to go before I am as good as he is.
"La Liga and Europe are full of great clubs, but as I am Spanish Madrid are one of the clubs I aspire to."
