Sheringham's set for new deal

West Ham manager Alan Pardew today confirmed that striker Teddy Sheringham will be offered a new contract for next season.

Sheringham, who will be 40 in April, was West Ham's top scorer with 26 league goals last season and also won the club's player of the year award.

The former England striker missed the playoff semi-finals with a hamstring injury and was an unused substitute in the final against Preston in West Ham's 1-0 victory.

There were rumours that he was poised to end his playing career in Australia but Sheringham is keen to stay at newly-promoted West Ham and Pardew said today: "We haven't talked to Teddy yet because things have been a little hectic but I can definitely say we will be offering him a new contract."

Pardew also confirmed that new offers will also be made to Chris Powell and Shaun Newton.
