Student chefs to cater for Games VIPs

9 May 2012

Fifty student chefs from a London college will cook for heads of state, royalty and other VIPs after being handpicked to work in the five-star hospitality suite in the Olympic Park.

The young chefs will be thrown in at the deep end as many of them have only previously worked at the campus restaurant where they study at Hackney Community College in Hoxton or at Jamie Oliver’s 15 restaurant around the corner.

The 24/7 catering operation in the Olympic Park is thought to be unrivalled for a sports event, with 47,000 staff, spectators and business leaders to serve every day.

Maudella Daley, a first-year NVQ student from Stoke Newington, said: “We know the pressure will be on but we think we can cope. Going there will be a real buzz.”

She will be employed by French catering giant Sodexo which has won the majority of Olympic catering contracts.
