Team GB sing ‘God Save the Queen’ during flight home from Rio 2016 Olympics

A jubilant Team GB were filmed singing the Great British national anthem during their fight home from the Rio 2016 games.

The Great Britain squad touched down at approximately 10:00am this morning at Heathrow Airport following their record-breaking exploits in Brazil on a specially chartered British Airways jumbo jet.

GB won 78 medals to finish second in the medal table, and secure their best ever performance at an away games.

Having enjoyed a luxury on-flight three-course meal and 77 bottles of champagne, the 320 athletes were in unsurprisingly high spirits.

A group, predominatly from the women's gold medal winning hockey team, were filmed singing the national anthem, God Save the Queen, during the flight.

24 hours earlier, the Queen herself paid tribute to their achievements at this summer’s games.

"I offer my warmest congratulations to the athletes of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and the Commonwealth, for their success at this year's Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

"The outstanding performance of Team GB reflects the talent and hard work of the athletes and their support teams.

"I send my best wishes to all those who contributed to this remarkable achievement," read a statement on the Royal Family's official website.
